Wes Edens is an American Investor
Wes Edens is an American investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is co-founder, president, and CEO of Fortress Investment Group.
Wes Edens was born in 1959 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Harold Earl Edens Jr. and Mary Ellen Wells Edens. The young family moved around a lot due to his father’s career as an aeronautical engineer for the Royal Air Force in Britain during World War II until they settled in San Ramon, California, when Wes was seven years old.
Wes’s mother sent him to radio stations when he was a child to write scripts for shows broadcast on AM radio station KSAN (now KION).
We became interested in investing in real estate as young boys. He started his own company that did not last very long, and a few years later, he got into making investments for other people. He worked for himself for a few years before joining the family business, his father’s, which grew from being a small construction firm (they built everything from restaurants to farmhouses) to building shopping malls in the San Francisco Bay area. He took over the management of that as well as his other ventures. Shortly after, he left Fortress and started his own company again. This time with much more success, it lasted much longer. We returned to Fortress in 2000 after he had great success with his other company. He stayed there for a few years before he decided to leave again and start up Fortress Investment Group.
Wes Edens is currently the co-founder, president, and chief executive officer of Fortress Investment Group LLC, an alternative asset management company based in New York City. Edens also serves as chairman of the National Basketball Association’s Milwaukee Bucks.
Edens is Chairman of the Board at Coupons.com, Inc., a publicly held ecommerce company headquartered in Pleasanton, CA; a director of Graham Holdings Company (formerly The Washington Post Company), a diversified education and media company based in Washington, D.C., and of the American Century Investments Fund. Edens is also a director of Automotive News, an international news organization based in Flatiron, NY.
